Joseph Lanfear

Joseph Lanfear (b. 1792) was the half-brother of Ambrose Lanfear from their father’s second marriage to Sarah Stanfield (c. 1767-April 1802). In 1809, after his father’s suicide, Joseph was granted by the King the right to take his mother’s name of Stanfield and assume properties belonging to her family in Middlesex. He appears in a letter by John Dunkin to Mary Hays on 3 March 1808, a letter that suggests that John Dunkin had some familial connections with the Lanfear family beyond that of his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hays Lanfear.
