John Hays Dunkin

John Hays Dunkin (1775-1858) married Sarah Francis (most likely she is the sister of Henry Francis, who later married John Hays Dunkin’s sister, Elizabeth, in May 1803) on 16 May 1799. A William Francis joined at Carter Lane in 1782, living then at 67 Aldgate, High Street. Henry and Sarah may well have been his children. J. H. and Sarah had at least five children: Henry Hays Dunkin, born 14 March 1800, at Cripplegate, London (this may be the church they are attending, since his birth is recorded in the Nonconformist Registers (RG4_4663); Joanna Dunkin (17 August 1801, entered first at St. Peters, Maldon, Essex); Elizabeth Dunkin (5 July 1802-1872); Emma Dunkin (16 August 1804) (p. 305 of the register); and John Hays Dunkin (c. 1807-1824), of Winsley, Wiltshire, late of Beeleigh, Suffolk. Obit. in Gentleman's Magazinee,  135 (1824, part 1), p. 93. He was apprenticed in 1821 as a draper from Beeleigh.  Elizabeth Dunkin married the Unitarian minister, Edmund Kell (1779-1874), on 24 June 1844, in the Unitarian chapel at Newport, Isle of Wight, where he was the minister at the time. Rev. Kell composed the "Memoir" of Mary Hays that appeared in the Christian Reformer in September and October 1844. Elizabeth's sister, Joanna, never married and lived her later years with her sister at Southampton. After the deaths of her sister and brother-in-law, Joanna Dunkin authored Memorials of the Rev. Edmund Kell . . . and Mrs. Kell of Southampton (London: Williams and Norgate, 1875).
