1823

9th July – I found my friend Mary Hayes established in a as a boarder in a large school at Greenwich in a spacious house built by Vanbrugh and bearing his name – Here she lived a few years with a Mrs Brown who kept the school – she praised the family for kindness & moral qualities – But the husband was an Irishman & improvidence was the infirmity which often renders goodness of heart worse than useless – There were promising sons – Gone out of sight altogether now –
